Tobago Heritage Festival 2016 Opening Night Gala

The Tobago Heritage Festival 2016 has officially started. It began with an Opening Gala Presentation at the Shaw Park Complex, on July 14th 2016, under the theme, ‘Bring Back The Old Time Days -Cut and Contrive.’ Patrons were taken on a journey to the past through song, dance and drama, which delivered a message of ‘waste not, want not.’

In her remarks, Secretary of Community Development and Culture, Councillor Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus said the island’s heritage is an essential part of what it means to be Tobagonian. She said, “The only time a people lose their identity is not when they embrace new ideas or new technologies but when they lose the substance of their heritage and their culture. Our Tobagonian identity has been the hallmark of our success regardless to where we have journeyed.”

The Festival runs until August 1st with an Emancipation Day parade.
