Tobago Heritage Festival 2016 Launched

With the theme, “Bring Back D Ole Time Days: Cut and Contrive”, the Tobago Heritage

Festival 2016 was launched on June 3 rd 2016 with a street procession by participating villages

and groups in the capital Scarborough, culminating with an Official Launch at Market Square

Car Park.

Chairman of the Tobago Heritage Festival Committee, Wendell Berkley noted that the theme

is quite fitting this year as the country is experiencing a recession. He says, “Cut and Contrive

means that you must manage whatever resources you have; let the small thing grow and

become more beautiful.”

Secretary of Community Development and Culture, Councillor Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt Angus

reminded the packed audience that the Tobago Heritage Festival is an investment by the Tobago

House of Assembly to explore our past and secure our future. She said it is an investment that

will be made every year.

This year’s theme is the beginning of a trilogy. Next year, the event’s theme is “Pinch Yuh

Lagniappe” followed by “Lend Hand” in 2018.

The Tobago Heritage Festival begins on July 14 th 2016 with the Opening Gala and ends on

August 1st 2016 with an Emancipation Day celebration. However, the year round experience

continues until November.
